Mission: Green Living for All
Community
Working together to make Maryland
a better place to live one home at a time.
Millions of Marylanders are spending billions to support the fossil fuel industry, all the while struggling to pay energy bills. We believe that those people should be free from these constraints so they can spend more time with their families and community while helping to clean up the environment.
GreenCasaMaryland.org is a public advocacy organization dedicated to educating the public on sustainability and green construction. GCM has a simple mission: to create a model high performance Green home to demonstrate that, by working together, the goal of net zero is possible for an affordable price. Working together means that businesses, government, advocacy organizations, volunteers, veterans, youth and low income skilled workers all pitch in to make Green homes a reality for all Marylander homeowners.
The Project
Timeline
Project kickoff occurs on May 15, 2013 with the clean up of the property where the model home will be built, a 14,000 sf lot in Montgomery County.
Designing and Engineering
Design and engineering of the home will be completed by mid June using the best and most cost effective Green products and materials.
Breaking Ground
Working together as a team, the ground will break in July with a poured, insulated daylight basement.
The Green Shell
We will be using Insulated Concrete Forms on the walls and radiant barrier and metal on the roof.
The Shell Cover
Planning for cement fiber walls, metal roof, insulated doors, triple pane windows with argon and uv protection by September.
